A Long Awaited Update

Alberto is finally back in the game and he's working diligently to complete this book. So far, there are 8 completed pages (of about 110), which you can find below. Alberto is working at a pace of about a page a week (he is also a college professor, so this is something he does in what little spare time he has), so if all goes well, the book will be ready sometime next year.

Pencils

Here are the pencils for the first four pages. The first 15 pages are penciled, so there is significant progress being made. Alberto has to work on the first chapter of his doctorate thesis, so there will be no more pages for a month or so. But it looks like everything is on track for the comic to be finished by the end of the year, if not sooner. I'll be adding more pages soon.

In other news, you can find another comic by Alberto in Candy or Medicine Vol. 9, which will be out in December '09 or January '10 (that seems so far away).

Script finished.

The script is finally finished and has been sent to Alberto today for illustrating. It has actually been finished for about a month now, however, it was hand-written in a notebook and I just finished typing it on Saturday. I find it effective hand-written things before typing them because it gives you another opportunity to edit. Expect to see more finished pages soon.

synopsis

"étagère (pronounced ā-tä-zher) is a wordless graphic novel about a man whose purchase of an antique piece of furniture at a garage sale quickly transforms into an unhealthy obsession. Emotions flare, priorities shuffle and relationships strain. Does this obsessive compulsive fascination emote from the étagère, or does it lurk deep inside the man, finally released with his newfound prized possession? Full of deceit, temperament and heartbreak, étagère explores the relationship between one man and his fixation upon a tangible object."

Meet the creators

Alberto Pessoa

Alberto teaches graphic design and publicity at the Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie in São Paulo, Brazil and is a freelance comics author. He is an art educator and actually wrote a doctoral thesis about the ironic speech in Latin comics. He lives in São Paulo, but has friends in every place of the world because he surfs the Internet every day! His works can be seen at http://epilogohq.blogspot.com.



Josh Blair

Josh is the founder, editor and publisher of Candy or Medicine. His comics have appeared in Super Fantastica Comix, Always Comix, Symphony in Ink and The Northerner. Josh is the father, freelance writer, and works in marketing. He has a bachelor's in journalism from Northern Kentucky University and a master's in journalism from Ohio University. Josh lives in Erlanger, Kentucky.
